HISTORY » here we go

PERSONALITY »
Amadeus Cho started the game out as a very angry, cocky, and lonely kid. After his family is killed in a massive explosion, he set off on his own with an unknown agency hot on his tail, only to be saved by the Hulk. This simple and very quick act of kindness had a massive effect on Cho; his hatred for SHIELD grows about tenfold, and he develops a quick and very deep loyalty to the Hulk. There’s two parts to Amadeus’ personality: the angry, suspicious and cocky kid before the journey, and the more confident, brave and understanding hero after his experiences with Hercules.

It’s very easy to see why Amadeus is so angry in the beginning; his family has been killed by a secret organization which he believes to be SHIELD, and one of the only friends he’s made since then is shuttled off into space by the Illuminati. Amadeus’ life has been catastrophically and irreversibly changed, and like most teens, he blames others, and takes actions to royally mess up their day. His main motivation in the beginning is revenge; he wants to hurt the people who hurt him, and nearly succeeds, before being talked down by his friend Hercules. It’s only after he learns the true conspiracy behind the Excello Soap Company that he realizes revenge isn’t the righty way, his own ‘purging of childish acts’ arc in his heroic journey. He realizes that revenge won’t bring back his family, nor will it solve any of his problems. He meets the man he could become if he continues along the path of anger and paranoia, and chooses to be different. Instead of facing a battle of the hyperminds, he simply walks away.

Amadeus unfortunately, is also very childish. He likes to make jokes at inappropriate times, he’ll refuse to help someone for no reason other than ‘I don’t like you’, and he often throws small fits of anger when he’s outsmarted. His temper can be quite mercurial; he refuses to take the mantle of Prince of Power, before taking over the Olympus group and the title the day after (with the motivation to find Hercules, of course.) As Athena mentioned, his personality is very cocky, although she corrects this into confident as Amadeus grows in his journey with Hercules. Fortunately for Amadeus, he can be a total ass and joke at villains because unless it’s the entirety of SHIELD of the Hulk, he probably has a way out. It’s way easier to be glib towards Atlanteans with very sharp tridents when you already have an escape route planned, after all. It’s very easy to see why Hercules and Cho get along so well; they both have the same easy confidence and belief in themselves, even when faced with insurmountable odds. (Although Cho does know when a battle is lost due to his abilities; he realizes that they can’t win against the Chaos God. )

Amadeus states that he doesn’t have many friends, and it’s easy enough to see why. Amadeus is very much a smart ass, his comments cut and for people who don’t know him well, they’d probably take it a little too serious. While his words can be hostile and brutal even to his closest of friends, he won’t abandon them. He stays with his (rather dubious) friends, refusing to stop even after the Hulk tells him to bugger off continuously. He refuses to give up after the death of Hercules, and pours the entirety of the Olympus’ groups capital into locating his lost friend. Amadeus isn’t the easiest friend to get along with, but he’s one of the best to have at your back. He wouldn’t be the friend you call to bail you out of jail, but the friend to call when you’re being set up in a phony trial.

He’s a good friend, but Amadeus also has a very manipulative side that comes out when he wants something done. He can be absolutely vicious when required, witnessed by Angel when he uses his bank account to buy a submarine for the Renegades, when he attempts to manipulate other superheroes into forming a new team by stranding them out in the ocean with him. He says he gives his friends the benefit of the doubt, but once that benefit is lost, Amadeus is about as scornful as a woman shunned. He is vindictive and ruthless when he has to be, but he has learned that revenge is not the way to making himself feel better. Even so, he’s the kind of person you want on your side, because not only will he destroy your life, but bankrupt your cousin’s car dealership.

In a nutshell, Amadeus definitely a 21st century superhero. He twitters, he uses slang, and he often schools other peoples in popular culture. He’s independent, petty, and ultimately human.

ABILITIES/WEAKNESSES » Amadeus is a HYPERMIND, and the 7/8th smartest guy on the planet depending on who you ask. Being a hypermind allows him to see almost every possibility and probability, and plot out the best course of action. He can take down a helicopter with a well aimed pebble, and manipulate people a way to maximize the outcome he wants. In other words (or in his own words), he’s just smart. However, using his mind to its full capacity requires him to recharge with heavy fats and sugar.

DREAM POWER » He turns into an astral coyote, like a ghostly see through version of his old friend Kirby. He can run around and howl, maybe take people on spirit walks, but that’s about it.

So, I got the lowdown. It’s almost like Twilight Zone meets Stepford with some Pleasantville thrown in; all we need are some crazy lady-bots and it’s perfect. My only question is: Montana, seriously? Of all the lame states to stick us in, you had to choose the one with nothing going on but a bunch of lakes, and I hate the outdoors.

Is New York tired of all the invasions? I understand that. What I don’t understand is why people continue to live there; you think they would’ve learned after the twentieth skrull invasion. But hey, whatever. No good D&D master would start at the end point.

So my last question and my only real question. What’s the game?

(4th edition is not an answer, so don’t even.)

LOG SAMPLE »
Lucky Charms, Valentines-day 5 lb pack of Twix, and an on-sale can of hot chocolate mix, check. Cho’s grocery cart resembles an after holiday sale at Godiva; he’s on a diet of sugar, and the only thing that has the slightest semblance of nutrition are the granola bars at the bottom of his car, and even those are covered in chocolate. He’s feeding a one man army, and the more sugar he has, the faster his brain will work, and the faster his brain works, the quicker he gets home and back to Herc.

Herc, that jerk. (Amadeus vaguely notices the rhyme.) As far as friends came, Herc wasn’t the best. A total cockblock, overly thick and simple at times, and geez, did people get their relationship totally wrong. Not to mention Herc was a terrible wingman, and Cho couldn’t count the number of times he wanted to tell Herc to take the night off and just stay inside. No one ever took notice of the skinny short Asian kid when Herc was around, after all. All they saw was the Greek God who was also an Avenger and also pretty ripped, and every now and then when Herc went to the mens room they’d pass a glance over at him, maybe. Maybe Cho was being unfair (he knew he was). Herc was the best bro anyone could ask for, and if Cho failed at scoring, it certainly wasn’t Herc’s fault. That’s why P90X was invented.

But it’s easier to blame anyone but himself. Blame was the one habit Cho couldn’t shed, even after who-knows-how-many heroic journeys. But hey, old habits died hard. Athena would have some BS advice on how the Prince of Power was above such petty things (not that Herc ever was), but Cho wasn’t listening. He’d blocked her number from his phone, her account on Facebook, and even on Twitter. (stop making accounts Athena, it’s desperate.)

She still tried to get in contact through her weird celestial power crap, but Amadeus had learned long ago how to block that out. Athena’s last disastrous appearance had been at a night club in NYC; the citizens of New York, being routinely familiar with alien invasions, did what they’d been conditioned to do and ran for the door. Two fractured collar bones, four broken stilettos and one missing hair extension later, they all realized it was just an astral projection and Amadeus had been unceremoniously given the boot.

With a small chuckle at the memory, Amadeus tossed in an extra pack of Snickers fun-size.

“You seriously need to get back Herc; your sister is seriously ruining my love life.”
